Wärtsilä, a global leader in marine training and simulation, partnered with Varjo to modernize how seafarers are trained using cutting-edge mixed reality technology.
Traditional maritime simulators rely on large multi-screen setups and projectors, what make them costly, slow to deploy, and limited in training performance. Access to simulation time is restricted by physical infrastructure and facility size.
By integrating Varjo XR headsets with Wärtsilä’s simulation platform, trainees enter highly immersive virtual bridge and engine room training environments while using real cockpit controls. Scenarios support multiple users in the same VR space, full 360° visuals, chroma-key and masking for seamless real-to-digital transitions, and motion-platform feedback for added realism.
Lower costs, faster setup: Cuts infrastructure spend by up to 80%, with setup time reduced from weeks to days
Scalable training: Supports more trainees with less space and hardware.
High realism: Real controls, motion feedback, and visuals create immersive, multi-user experiences.
Safe and flexible: Trainees can practice critical scenarios without risk and in varied conditions.
Easily adaptable: raining modules can be adapted and expanded rapidly for different roles or locations.
